Carbonaceous Materials

Carbonaceous materials are an important class of nanomaterials that have been used extensively in nanotechnology. Carbonaceous materials have unique physical, chemical and structural properties that make them attractive for use in a variety of applications. These materials can be divided into three primary categories: carbon nanotubes, graphene and fullerenes. Carbon nanotubes are cylindrical structures composed of a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice. They have exceptional properties, such as high electrical conductivity, high thermal conductivity, mechanical strength and flexibility. Carbon nanotubes can be used in a variety of applications, such as nanoelectronic devices, nanowires, field effect transistors, and nanogenerators. Graphene is a two-dimensional sheet of carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb lattice. It is the thinnest and strongest material known to man and is highly conductive, both thermally and electrically. Graphene has been used in a variety of applications, such as sensors, transistors, solar cells, display devices, electrochemical capacitors and energy storage systems.
